In France, an exhausted deer surrounded by hunters is saved by the intervention of animal rights activists. But it is a story that repeats itself
Lying on the ground with his mouth wide open, his tongue out and no more strength. The deer can't take it anymore to continue its race for survival, it seems to have given up by now. Around him, a fleet of French dogs and hunters. Heartbreaking images released by the anti-hunting group AVA and showing all the cruelty that takes place during the current hunting season.
After a grueling escape, the deer crashes to the ground in a stretch of asphalt near a construction site outside the town of Compiègne, north of Paris. And it is here that his destiny changes: the AVA animal rights activists drive away dogs and hunters, just enough for the deer to get up and run away towards the nearby woods.
“As more and more people began to witness the scene, the hunters had to retreat and let the animal go. This kind of scene happens several times a week, but usually happens without anyone being able to see them, hidden in the woods, ”AVA spokesman Stanislas Broniszewski told Reuters.

In July, AVA and other environmental organizations launched a proposal to organize a national referendum to ban hunting with horses and hounds:
“They release 50 to 60 dogs in the woods to hunt wild animals. It is no longer acceptable to torture prey for hours in this way, ”Broniszewski said.
For their part, pro-hunting groups say the activity is legal and should not be hindered.
