Polar bear cubs playing with a plastic bag: the symbolic photo of our time

Polar bear cubs playing with a plastic bag: the symbolic photo of our time

This image is traveling around the world and shows polar bear cubs playing with a plastic bag

They live in remote places, far from big cities, immersed in a muffled environment made of ice and water. But even they are not safe from our waste. This image is going around the world and shows polar bear cubs playing with a plastic bag or perhaps, hungry, contending for it thinking it is edible.

A photo that is the mirror of our times, in which the Earth has become a real landfill and the sea as well. Most likely, the waste reaches remote corners of the planet, such as the Arctic, transported by the sea.

This photo was taken in Lifdefjorden on the northern coast of Svalbard. These are some remote islands of the Arctic, where some bear cubs, intrigued by the strange object, begin to play. We don't know what happens next but it is likely that they ate parts of it.

But it's a shame it's one of our dirty plastic bags. As the author of the image who deals with naturalistic photography explains, in addition to bears, arctic foxes and other predators also end up eating the plastic waste that often ends up on the shore with the currents of the Arctic Ocean, north-east of the Svalbard or with the Gulf Stream rising from Europe.

In fact, due to the alteration of their ecosystems, animals are increasingly hungry.

The photo was taken during an expedition:

Unfortunately, plastic has now reached every corner of the planet, from the Mariana trench

The deepest plastic bag in the world, found in the Mariana Trench

    to Antarctica.

Plastic in Antarctica: even the South Pole invaded by microplastics and chemicals

No creature on Earth is safer.
