A new environmental disaster is involving the Thailand. Scientists are trying to understand why 70 giant races, some nearly the size of a car, have been found lifeless in the river in recent weeks There is a Klong.

The authorities dealing with the case have found that the river water is more acidic than normal but they are not sure if this is the cause of the death of the rays. We recently told you about the acidification of the oceans and waterways of the planet, caused by the increase in CO2 emissions. They had already been registered similar deaths in Mexico and Palestine.

“One thing is clear: the reduction of pollution from the surrounding factories is certainly necessary for the health of the river and for the long-term protection of the rays,” explained Zeb Hogan.

According to the WWF, there is an important factor to take into account. These breeds were gradually separated into different groups due to the construction of large hydroelectric dams and this helped to reduce genetic diversity. Furthermore, these giant rays are at risk of being injured or killed during fishing activities.

It will be necessary to investigate further to understand the true causes of the mass deaths of giant breeds in Thailand. The contributing causes could be both river water pollution and climate change.
