Something that has not yet happened and, given that Christmas is near and the consumption of chocolate is increasing, it is better to remember what crimes the multinational is guilty of and continues to stain.

Mars, explains Peta in her Mars Heartless Animal Experimentation campaign, recently funded University of California, San Francisco, a rat experiment to determine the effects of the ingredients of chocolate on the blood vessels of animals. The guinea pigs, "cheap" animals, easy to manage and "dispose of", were force-fed with a plastic tube stuck in their throat, their legs were then cut and opened to expose an artery, which was then closed with staples to block the flow of blood. After the experiment, the animals were killed.

In another 2007 experiment, published in the Journal of Neuroscience, mice were first fed flavonoids and then forced to swim in a pool of water mixed with white paint, to hide a submerged platform that the guinea pigs had to find to avoid drowning. In other tests, rats were fed cocoa and anesthetized with carbon dioxide so that blood could be collected by a needle and injected directly into the heart. A procedure criticized by United States Department of Agriculture researcher William T. Golde, who wrote: “This is not a simple method. If the heart is missing or if the needle passes through the heart from side to side, there may be undetectable internal bleeding or other complications. "

Mars then financed a teast where rabbits were fed a high cholesterol diet, with variable quantities of cocoa. They were then "opened" to examine their blood vessels and muscle tissues. Guinea pigs have also been used to examine and determine the effects of cocoa on blood pressure. As evidence of this, the cruel video of Peta arrives, where the mistreatment and the tests emerge in all their rawness in the frames.

And to say that a few years ago there Mars announced that all of its cocoa production would follow sustainable agriculture criteria. An ecological project that strongly clashes with the cruel and anachronistic "animal unfriendly" policy carried out despite the obvious lack of motivation. Because, among other things, none of these tests are required by law. It is simply gratuitous violence, to which, unfortunately, one contributes precisely by buying the company's confectionery products.

But to hinder these experiments, Peta calls for a boycott of the brand and the signing of a petition: “buying even a single product from Mars, inc. you will legitimize gratuitous violence against animals and their killing ”. This is why it is important to sign and disseminate the information.
