Kangaroo pouches and koala mittens: here's how to help Australian animals by knitting or crocheting

In Australia we are working to save animals affected by terrible fires and there are those who contribute with knitting for kangaroos, koalas and marsupials

Volunteers from all over the world are working hard to save the animals, victims of the terrible fires that are hitting Australia. Among them there are those who contribute with knitting for kangaroos, koalas and other marsupials.

The forest fires that have hit Australia in recent weeks are causing a real massacre of animals and the whole world is mobilizing to try to save as many as possible. Thousands of volunteers joined together to offer the animals rescued from the flames their knitting, crochet or hand-sewn items.

Millions of hectares of land have now been burned and the latest estimates speak of about 1 billion dead animals. As the death toll rises, many creatures have been orphaned or no longer have their homes. Young marsupials tra cui opossum, koala e wombat they need warm places (how was your mother's baby carrier) in which to grow up safely.

Here then is that the solution is precisely the baby carriers made by hand by donors.

Other animals such as flying foxes (a typically Australian bat species) also require pouches to aid their recovery while koalas need gloves to protect their burnt paws.

The Animal Rescue Craft Guild, based in Australia, has launched an appeal on its Facebook group, asking for donations of materials and creations useful for saving animals. The effort has fortunately attracted numerous volunteers from all over the world (Europe, Asia, United States, etc.)

It is emphasized that potential donors interested in participating in the initiative should strictly follow the instructions as some materials and models are not appropriate for small animals. The group has already received enough gloves for the koalas and is now looking especially for bags for bats and kangaroos.

On the Facebook page you will find all the useful information to contribute with a knitting, crochet, hand sewing or with a cash donation. You can also see in the photo section many pictures of works already done by the volunteers.

The Rescue Collective, based in Queensland, is partnering with the Animal Rescue Craft Guild to distribute the donated items to the parts of the country that need them most. As you can imagine, the collective received a huge number of requests from rescuers.

Marsupials and other Australian animals, in reality, always need bags and gloves, not only in the period of fires but now the situation is catastrophic and obviously requires more effort from everyone.
