At first the amazement for an undeniably fascinating spectacle, but now the four killer whales we told you about a few days ago and which continue to stop in the port of Genoa-Voltri, begin to cause concern.

These cetaceans have not been seen in Liguria since 1985 and to get to Voltri, biologists and researchers hypothesize they swam for over a thousand kilometers. Their black fins have been immortalized by the Genoa Harbor Master's Office, they are four in all: a male, a female, a puppy of about six months and another adult.

And the concerns are precisely for the puppy that would be life threatening. "As if he were in agony, or already dead", says the Seame Sardinia, Sardinian non-profit organization that deals with the protection of the environment and marine fauna that has been following the killer whales since Sunday.

They were first spotted three days ago by a fisherman who was entranced by the sight of these majestic cetaceans which could, according to experts, be the same ones spotted in early November off the coast of Cartagena, Spain, perhaps passing through the Strait of Gibraltar.

But why do they keep staying here? Why do they always swim in the same spot? The Minister of the Environment Sergio Costa also intervenes on the social networks.

“For some days now, 4 killer whales have been present in the port of Genoa-Voltri as an exception. One of them appears emaciated, is ill. At my suggestion, the Harbor Master's Office, which I thank for their sensitivity, has issued an order prohibiting all ships from passing through the area where mammals are found to protect their health. Furthermore, the control device by means of patrol boats has been strengthened ”, writes the minister.

Why the killer whales are still there remains a mystery. There are those who speculate that they went into the harbor in search of fish.

“The Mediterranean is not new to this type of presence, which however remains quite rare”, comments the Limet association which published the video on Facebook.

But there are also those who hypothesize that the killer whales could have gone as far as the Ligurian Sea also due to climate changes that cause temperature changes in the waters, disorienting the mammals.

The Menkab team and @artescienza_varazze today with the small but extraordinary pod of #orche (Orcinus orca) already spotted yesterday outside the port of #Voltri. A large male (whose dorsal fin can be seen) and at least one cub, probably recently born. Killer whales are occasional species in the Mediterranean Sea and these sightings are rare and extraordinary, although not unique. The group traveled back and forth. near the shore, with a particular behavior perhaps due to the presence of the puppy. @ gabrieleprincy @ jules.kalos87 @ achab_91 @alecaps_ac @ la.smarty @mattiameirana @samuelewurtz @ bia.sea _____________Team menkab and artescienza today with an amazing pod of #killerwhales in the # liguriansea # menkab #killerwhale #orca #orcinusorca #mediterraneo #genova #pelagos #sealife #wildlife #naturephotography #wildlifephotography #wildlifeplanet #cetacean #liguria #liguriagram #lamialiguria #portsofgenoa #genovatoday

“Protecting the sea and its biodiversity MUST be the priority of the Policy, a policy that intends to protect the common good. These killer whales must be the symbol of the protection of our seas, and with the "Declaration of Naples" which will be implemented by Cop21 in these hours, this direction will be even stronger and more furrowed ", comments Minister Costa.

In the meantime, let us clarify, we join the appeal of the experts: the cetaceans must remain alone, we must not stress them with videos and photos.
