Just a little water and sugar ... to save a bee!

Just a little water and sugar ... to save a bee!

We repeat it often: if bees were to disappear from the face of the Earth, humans would only have 4 years of life left. To say it are researchers and scientists, which is why we too, in our small way, can do something to help them. And that's not just true for honey bees, but solitary bees and bumble bees as well (like the one in the cover photo).

We repeat it often: if bees were to disappear from the face of the Earth, humans would only have 4 years of life left. And that's not just true for honey bees, but solitary bees and bumble bees as well (like the one in the cover photo).

In the last 5 years, the bee population has decreased by a third, the fault lies with pesticides that are dangerous for all pollinating insects, but also pollution. Three harmful substances have been banned in the European Union, but the road is still uphill, which is why bees need us too.

Why are bees so important?

We do not exaggerate if we say that our life depends on their health. In fact, both domestic and wild bees play a key role in food production. Without pollinating insects, many humans and animals would have a hard time finding the food they need for their nutrition and survival.

Up to 35% of food production globally depends on the natural pollination service offered by these insects. And of the 100 crops on which 90% of world food production depends, 71 are linked to the pollination work of bees. In Europe alone, 4000 different crops grow thanks to bees.

How to save the bees?

The key thing is never kill them, just keep them at a distance. Then, remember that bees do not need to be fed, but giving them a little sugar water in a spoon once (and not as a habit) does not harm them. The problem is that many have got into the bad habit of leaving sugar water all the time and this, in the long run, can create serious problems in the pollination process. Beekeepers say this: because if bees manage to get sugar easily from a bowl rather than visit a hundred flowers, pollination is at risk.

There are also many other things we can do to help them. For example plant the right flowers in our vegetable garden, on the balcony or in the garden. Among the most popular plants and flowers there are: Facelia, Calendula, Vetch, Lupinella, Incarnate Clover, Alexandrine Clover, Resupinate Clover, Alfalfa, Coriander, Cumin, Annual Fennel, Parsnip, Dill, Borage, Rosemary, Thyme, Lavender, Sulla , Sunflower, mallow, marigold, buckwheat, sweet clover.
