He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

They are M62 e F43 the two bears wanted by the Province of Trento. It is a male and a female who, like M57, have learned to feed from waste bins: a behavior considered problematic and for which the provincial guidelines, recently approved, provide for their killing.

Just over a year ago the JJ4 bear was sentenced to death by the province of Trento for having attacked two hunters who, having left the path, had surprised her in the company of her cubs. But thanks to the intervention of the LAV, that bear was saved and now continues to live free without having given any news of herself, confirming that what happened in June 2020 was only an accident due to external factors and not to her nature.

Now, the same LAV reveals to be in possession of official documents confirming theintention of the province of Trento to open a new summer of fire against two bears living in that territory.

With the approval of the new guidelines for the management of bears, the Province of Trento has decided that the natural behavior of bears, such as foraging for food, will henceforth involve their capture and the application of a radio collar. From the moment in which a bear is identified in its "problematic" behaviors (approaching bins, inhabited areas, anthropogenic structures), even in the absence of episodes of aggression or threat to humans, the province can implement two attempts at "deterrence ", With rubber bullets or with the intervention of bear dogs; once these attempts have been made, within one year from the first recorded critical episode, the Province will be able to proceed with the killing.

M62 and F43 have been surprised on several occasions while they were feeding at the waste bins, a behavior considered dangerous because it accustoms the bears to the proximity of man and to the perception of inhabited centers as inexhaustible sources of food.

The lack of safety of the waste bins by the Province, which in more than 20 years has not been able to complete the replacement with those equipped with an anti-bear device - declares Massimo Vitturi, LAV manager, Wild Animals - is in fact the because of the unscrupulousness of the bears who in those bins identify a canteen available, to the point of being able to overcome their innate fear of man.

The Province's delay in replacing the bins is the first, true, cause of the approach of bears to urban areas; therefore it is not clear why the animals should be persecuted to death for the non-compliance of the provincial administration.

It is well known throughout the scientific world that the control of food sources is the primary task of administrations to ensure the safety of citizens, while at the same time preventing bears from changing their behavior.

The Lav has always asked that the Province of Trento provide for the replacement of the bins with those equipped with anti-bear structures, but only in the last few months, twenty-one years after the start of the bear reintroduction project, we have news of the first replacements, when by now M62 and F43 had already been surprised to feed on those without protection.

It is unacceptable that the two bears are sentenced to death for responsibilities that are clearly the responsibility of the Province: for this reason the LAV has sent a warning to President Fugatti, so that he immediately renounces any hypothesis of killing, leaving the two bears free to live the their life.

We ask Minister Cingolani for his authoritative intervention in defense of the life of the two bears: the colleague who preceded him has always had a clear pro-bear position, you Mr. Minister, who are you with? LAV concludes

To save the lives of the M62 and F43 bears, LAV launches a great mobilization, inviting everyone to join the call: #BASTAORSIUCCISI.
