In Liguria they will also kill the (healthy) pigs kept at home and in shelters

The ordinance of the Liguria Region intends to counter the spread of the African swine fever epidemic is absolutely unmotivated.

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

"Immediate slaughter of pigs kept in family farms for self-consumption after a pre and post mortem clinical visit by the veterinary service of the ASL (the limitations on the number of pigs slaughtered for family use have been lifted) and a ban on restocking for 6 months" . So says the ordinance with which the Liguria Region intends to counter the spread of the African swine fever epidemic. Absolutely unmotivated.

To prevent the spread of the epidemic, the ministers of health, Roberto Speranza, and of agricultural policies, Stefano Patuanelli, had already signed an ordinance in recent days that prohibits hunting in 78 municipalities of Piedmont and 36 of Liguria, considered areas risk. Now, Liguria would like the immediate slaughter or killing even of healthy animals, of all Vietnamese piglets, pigs, wild boars rescued by individuals, associations.

Specifically, as for the farms, now the ordinance of Liguria provides:

  • self-consumption: immediate slaughter of pigs kept in family farms for self-consumption after a pre- and post-mortem clinical visit by the veterinary service of the ASL (the limitations on the number of pigs slaughtered for family use have been lifted) and a ban on restocking for 6 months
  • wild farms: killing or immediate slaughter even of pigs from wild or semi-wild farms and mixed farms (pigs, wild boars and hybrids) with a ban on restocking for 6 months
  • commercial farms: scheduling the slaughter of pigs and wild boars present in commercial farms within 30 days, with a ban on reproduction and restocking for 6 months
  • only authorized personnel will be able to access and travel through the infected area for the inspection and recovery of the carcasses

The appeal to the TAR

To announce a appeal at the TAR is LAV, which asks for the immediate suspension of an ordinance that would like to counter the spread of the African swine fever epidemic, but which is in fact unmotivated for the protection of health and cruel towards animals.

⚠️ Incredible, President @GiovanniToti @RegLiguria
also orders the killing of HEALTHY pigs saved by citizens, shelters, associations. We ask for the withdrawal of your Ordinance, otherwise we will resort to the TAR. Is your decision groundless for sanity and cruel to animals? Https: //t.co/ia64lPtPFq pic.twitter.com/KLNEdp1WNT

We are already supporting a first citizen in the Genoese area, who received a phone call from the local veterinary service, with which she was ordered to bring the pig she saved to slaughter, not sick, which she keeps in perfect condition - write from the Lav.

We invite all people in the same situation not to comply with the intimation, especially since it is not written, and not to allow strangers to enter the properties to let animals be taken.

Really, in short, is killing animals the winning strategy to extinguish the epidemic?
