An illegal dump of dead wild boars. Following a report, the agents of the Forestry Corps of Matelica discovered it in the Esino river, near Incrocca, on the border between the Municipalities of Matelica and Cerreto d'Esi, in the Marche region.

Some carcasses were some contained in plastic bags, others were directly immersed in the watercourse, with their limbs stripped by fish and other wild animals. According to the first hypotheses, they would be wild boars killed by poachers following clandestine hunting trips.

THE TUBERCULOSIS ALARM - Of concern is the possibility that the animals were suffering from tuberculosis. For this reason, according to Lac, the poachers would have disposed of them, instead of burning them or burying them as usual. “The Region is closely monitoring the issue of wild boar (and bovine) tuberculosis as it is potentially transmissible to humans through the ingestion of meat and harmful to the regional economy”, explains the Marche Region.

But selection hunting would be safe, as the teams are equipped with a veterinarian who certifies the meat. At the initiative of the councilor for hunting, Paola Giorgi, action will now be taken to strengthen meat controls, to remedy the disease and to isolate and punish poachers who commit a serious crime by smuggling potentially infected meat.

For Lac, which is calling for the suspension of wild boar hunting, the alarm, on the other hand, is much more serious. Hunting circles have long been aware that in the Marche population of wild boars, especially in the San Vicino and Fabrianese areas, the disease, dangerous for humans, is notably widespread.

And that wild animals, while citizens are kept in the dark, are also infecting cattle grazing on the same mountains. Only a thorough monitoring of the health of the entire Marche population of wild boar could really verify the spread of tuberculosis. And prepare the decisions to be made.
