Hungry elephant eats plastic waste abandoned by tourists in India

The poor elephant has decided to rummage through the rubbish, contenting himself with a plastic meal left by tourists

Alone, hungry. He roamed West Bengal, India, in search of food. Finding nothing but the rubbish left by the tourists, the poor elephant decided to rummage through the rubbish, contenting himself with a plastic meal.

Those that are circulating are terrible images. The photos, taken by the journalist Pranab Das, are traveling around the world, demonstrating once again how miserably widespread is the spread of waste and especially of plastic waste on Earth.

The man said he noticed that the elephant ingested plastic immediately after being thrown by tourists. But not only. Das would also have seen vans unloading garbage in the midst of Nature, reproaching the authors of that act of harming animals.

Unfortunately this is not the first time this has happened but the author of the photos hopes that they can raise awareness of pollution and the importance of not throwing waste into the environment:

“I hope these photos encourage people to stop littering. The elephant was snacking on plastic, which is painful for me to see. "

Unfortunately, in addition to the problem of pollution, the photo also raised another issue. Elephants are also struggling with habitat loss and difficulties in finding food. For this reason, especially in Africa, they often suffer from hunger and are driven to eat poisonous plants which, as happened in the summer months, have produced elephant deaths.

The cause of the mysterious elephant massacre in Botswana has been discovered: it would be a natural toxin
