How? Thanks to creative recycling and a mini-garden to create in your own kitchen with glass jars (and a few other recycled materials). Summer Rayne Oakes made one of her together with her father and in a video she explains step by step how to do it. So let's see what it takes to build a mini-garden with glass jars in the kitchen in just 10 steps:
MATERIALS
- Glass jars
- Cable ties
- Screws
- Recycled wooden board
- Glue to adhere the edge to the wall before fixing with screws
- Coal
- Stones for drainage
- Aromatic plants (basil, sage, rosemary, thyme, lavender, etc ...)
- Drill
- Pencil
REALIZATION
- Mark on the wood the position where you want to apply the pots and the ties with a pencil.
- Place the board on the wall and mark where the mini-garden will be attached, trying to choose a well-lit spot
- Use wood glue to secure the board to the wall
- Once you have your board in the position you want, use the screws and the drill to fix it on the wall
- Use the screws to fix the ties to the wood.
- Place the jars in the clamps and tighten them.
- Place a handful of stones in each jar for drainage
- Also form a thin layer of charcoal over the stones (to balance the pH).
- Now for the fun part: choose the plants you want to use for the mini garden
- Finally, insert the soil into the pots and plant the herbs. Et voilà, your garden with jars is ready to grow many aromatic plants for your recipes, even in an apartment in the city!
