In southern Egypt, more than 500 people ended up in hospital after scorpion stings that are invading homes
He is about to end up run over, his mother saves himFor several days the citizens of the southern areas of Egypt have been grappling with a terrible invasion of scorpions, who are entering homes en masse. A story that recalls one of the famous biblical plagues, but which is really throwing the population into panic. So far I am over 500 people were hospitalized in hospital following the sting of these highly venomous ancient arthropods. Those who were stung experienced a number of symptoms including severe pain, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive sweating, and muscle tremors.
Some local media also reported the deaths of three citizens, but the news was denied by the interim health minister Khalid Abdel-Ghafar who said no deaths were reported at the time. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has reassured the population by guaranteeing that over three thousand doses of anti-scorpion serum are available in the city of Aswan.
The causes of the scorpion invasion
But where did all these scorpions come from? The cause of the invasion is the bad weather which last weekend mainly hit the city of Aswan, in southern Egypt.
#Egypt : Health official in Aswan has told BBC that the heavy thunder & hail storm there washed scorpions into the streets & people’s homes – causing 400 people to be stung – in the rains scorpions seek refuge anywhere they can… #أسوان #مِصر

Floods and heavy hailstorms, which caused numerous damage to homes and shops, forced local authorities to suspend school lessons.
A catastrophic situation for many homes in the city of Aswan after the recent torrential rains.

And a side effect of the floods was the invasion of scorpions, who tried to save themselves by sheltering in their homes (along with other animals such as snakes).

The mountains of Aswan are home to the Arabian fat-tailed scorpion (scientifically Androctonus crassicauda). It is an arthropod, about 8-10 cm long, which lives in North Africa and the Middle East. It is considered one of the most dangerous species of scorpion in the world as its venom is capable of killing an adult subject within an hour.
