Etna erupts again with loud roars, making windows and floors tremble. Disruption expected at Catania airport

A new eruption of Etna, accompanied by ash and loud roars, awakened the citizens of Catania in the early hours of the morning

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

The highest active volcano in Europe returns to the charge. After less than a week of respite, Etna returns to erupt with a series of powerful roars that made doors, windows and even the floors of the houses in different areas of the Catanese tremble. Around 4.30 at night the Etneo Observatory Ingv recorded a new lava overflow from the South-East crater, accompanied by loud roars that abruptly woke up the citizens who live on the slopes of the volcano. The tremors and the emission of ash continued until 6 in the morning.

We heard it well this morning, the voice of Etna, we heard the pressure waves (infrasonic signals) that shook not only windows, doors and shutters, but even the walls and floors of the houses. And as always, nothing abnormal (yes, because all the things that Etna does * are * normal, for Etna), the phenomenon is always the same: lava bubbles that explode on the surface, a phenomenon that is therefore totally "skin-like" "and completely harmless. The fact remains that it is something extremely spectacular and impressive, a manifestation of nature that shows us our space and confronts us with the energy of the volcano, energy capable of making us disappear, which however also gives us a large part of what allows us to exist. Here is a video of mine from this morning, August 9, 2021: 6 minutes full of bubbles and roars, "uncut". Occasionally a few comments from us, which we had been observing since three in the morning.

"We heard it well this morning, the voice of Etna, we heard the pressure waves (infrasonic signals) that shook not only windows, doors and shutters, but even the walls and floors of the houses" explains the volcanologist on Facebook. Boris Behncke of Ingv Catania. But despite the tremors and insistent noises, there would be no need to worry, it is only Etna that does its "job". Nothing anomalous (yes, because all the things that Etna does * are * normal, for Etna), the phenomenon is always the same: lava bubbles that explode on the surface, a phenomenon that is therefore totally 'pellicular' and completely harmless - adds the expert - The fact remains that it is something extremely spectacular and impressive, a manifestation of nature that shows us our space and confronts us with the energy of the volcano, energy capable of making us disappear, which however it also gives us much of what allows us to exist.

Rain of volcanic ash and delays at Catania airport

This time it was the residents of the municipalities of Acireale and Zafferana Etnea who had the worst, covered by the umpteenth shower of lava ash. So at the crack of dawn, many people armed themselves with brooms or blowers to clean balconies and courtyards.

In the meantime, Catania Fontanarossa airport has published - via a post on Facebook - that due to the eruption, possible delays on arriving and departing flights are expected.
