Before the wife's illness, the two spouses had lived a happy life. Earning a living through their own dairy farm in the countryside of Japan, the couple had two beautiful children. But their existence changed when Ms. Kuroki was struck by diabetes and she had to deal with one of the most terrible complications: loss of sight.
Within a few weeks, the woman was unable to see anything. Then, she fell into depression, closing herself in the house and also avoiding going out into the open air. A tragedy for her husband who then tried to find a solution to make her smile again.
It was the beauty of Nature that offered him the idea: to grow a beautiful one garden that could offer the woman the pleasant scent of flowers. Not a light smell but a real floral cloud that intoxicated the senses of her wife, helping her to overcome her sadness.
After two years of hard work and thousands of flowers appeared, Kuroki succeeded in making his wife happy. Their story has gone around the world and the huge expanse of flowers has become a destination to visit.
The couple lives in Shintomi, in Miyazaki Prefecture. Their garden is now a real open-air museum that flourishes in spring showing a carpet of pink flowers called Shibazakura or Phlox.
Circa 7.000 people visit every day this little corner of paradise, a symbol of love which, like Nature, knows how to renew itself and overcome any difficulty.
