THEsighting took place about 3 miles south of the coast of Lavagna in the Sanctuary of the Cetaceans, aprotected area which extends for about 90 thousand square kilometers between Liguria, Sardinia, Tuscany, the Principality of Monaco and France.
Given the particular chemical-physical characteristics, including the presence of nitrates and phosphates in the waters at a depth of 100-200 meters, this stretch of the Mediterranean is theideal habitat for all cetacean species present, which is why environmental associations fought for it to be declared a protected area.
After years of commitment and work, in 2001 the Sanctuary of the Cetaceans with the aim of adopting appropriate measures to ensure the conservation of marine mammals and their habitat and protect them from the negative effects of human activities.
These beautiful mammals are indeed threatened, among other things, from accidental catches during fishing activities, collisions with boats, chemical and noise pollution, greenhouse gas emissions.
The numerous whales sighted off the coast of Lavagna a few days ago were shooting from the helicopter and the video was then shared on the social pages of the Guardia di Finanza.
