    California has just signed a law that, in addition to banning the sale of fur products, prevents the use of wild animals in circuses.

    After the ban on the commercial capture and breeding of animals destined to become furs, California now signs # AB44, one of the most stringent laws defending animal rights.

    And thanks to this step forward, in the country, from 2023 January XNUMX, it will no longer be possible to sell, distribute, donate or produce new fur products and the use of tigers, elephants and other animals will be prohibited in circuses.

    It is the first US state to do so and to announce the change was Governor Gavin Newsom:

    “I just signed # AB44, one of the most stringent animal rights laws making California the first state to ban the sales of new furs. I have also signed a package of important rules to put an end to the cruel fate of many animals ”.

    I just signed #AB44 — one of the strongest animal rights laws in US History — making California the first state in the nation to ban new fur sales.

    Also signed a package of important bills that will bring an end to the cruel treatment of many animals across our state. https://t.co/xvHfBt3Jz5

    The bill, drafted by Laura Friedman, applies to all new items of clothing, and also to bags, shoes, key rings, hats and other items made of fur, and provides high penalties for those who violate it. Cowhide and sheepskin are excluded, as well as furs used for religious purposes and by Native American tribes.

    Friedman commented on # AB44 with these words:

    “CA made history today - # AB44 was signed into law! After decades of effort by animal welfare advocates, we are now the first state in the nation to ban fur. CA has no room for the inhuman and unsustainable treatment of animals. Now that other states follow our example. "

    Not only, Newsom has also signed other regulations aimed at safeguarding the life of animals:

    • SB 313 per ban the use of bears, tigers, elephants, monkeys and other wild animals in circuses;
    • the AB 1254 per prohibit the hunting, trapping or killing of feral cats in California until 2025, after which time it will be possible to issue limited licenses;
    • the AB 128 per protect wild and domestic horses of California from the massacre;
    • AB 1260 which adds other types of animals, such as iguana, skink, caiman, hippo and three types of lizards, to the ban on the import and trade of dead animals and parts of dead animals.

    In short, an excellent turning point that we hope will be an example to other states.
