Beak of Copper: the story of the Ottorino goose moves the Vegetarian Festival

Becco di Rame and his veterinarian Alberto Briganti told their story at the Gorizia Vegetarian Festival. Among amused children and excited parents, the brave goose with the beak prosthesis immediately met with great sympathy. Not only that: this is a great testimony of the bond that unites humans and animals. The nobility of the gesture reminds us of the value of the life of these intelligent and sensitive beings, prey to human nutrition.

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

This is the story of a goose. Is called Ottorino and is a nice example of goose Toulouse, eight kilos of feathers and squawking. She lives happily on a farm in Tuscany, together with her friends her chickens.

One winter evening, the year is 2012, a hungry fox sneaks into the chicken coop and attacks the chickens. With courage Ottorino attacks the fox to save the hens and extraordinarily succeeds. Yet the price he pays is his beak. The fox, in fact, has detached a piece of it and Ottorino is no longer able to eat.

The brave goose is then brought to a somewhat particular veterinarian. Is called Alberto Briganti and it is said of him that he has already saved six wolves from the Apennines and taken a tooth from a circus elephant. It also seems that he saved a cat washed at 90 degrees - by mistake - in the washing machine. But agoose with broken beak it had never happened to him. Briganti thinks about it for a while and finally decides to apply a prosthesis. He takes one copper foil and models it carefully. She puts Ottorino to sleep and, with an innovative technique, fixes it to what remains of her beak.

Upon awakening Ottorino has a new beak and a great desire to live. Eat after so many days of fasting and scratching around happy. This is how Ottorino becomes Copper beak.

Beak of Copper: the story of the Ottorino goose moves the Vegetarian Festival

It is a symbolic story, an invitation to share the love for our animals. "Do not take our children to zoos or safaris - said Briganti - instead take them to those farms where they live happily".

The story of Beak of Copper, mutilated and returned to life with a prosthesis, is also the story of the many people who overcome the same kind of difficulty. So much so that he gave birth to one Foundation in aid of young prosthetic-disabled athletes, which you can support by purchasing the book which tells the story of Beak of Copper. A real fairytale of love for animals.
