Australia's largest mobile wildlife care hospital is established

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

A mobile hospital just for them: Australia's largest mobile assistance center for wildlife is underway to take care of Oceania's immense wildlife heritage. It will be managed by Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital and can be taken to any wildlife crisis hotspot.

Great news for the animals that experienced the tragedy of the fires last austral summer: the facility, the largest mobile hospital, can be brought to any fauna crisis unit to treat, rehabilitate and care for native animals in distress. Which - we remember - are a unique heritage in the world with many species that live exclusively in the great country of Oceania.

The mobile hospital is fully self-sufficient for (solar) energy, satellite communications, water supply and waste storage, and is also equipped with state-of-the-art veterinary equipment, the managers write.

If we think about what happened a year ago when a season of fires caused the death of an impressive number of animals, this news ignites hope that another disaster, should it unfortunately repeat itself, could now be stemmed (Read also: Australia fires: 3 billion animals killed or displaced, 3 times more than estimated).

"The catastrophic fires of last summer hit us and we realized that the need for something similar was more urgent than ever - says Stephen Van Mil, founder and CEO of Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital - Seeing dozens of injured koalas sitting in laundry baskets waiting for treatment was heartbreaking".

Thus, also thanks to the contribution of funding received from the WWF, the facility purchased state-of-the-art X-ray machines, ultrasound scanners, endoscopy and anesthesia, intensive care cages and a rapid test kit for chlamydia in koalas.

The mobile hospital, the size of a semi-trailer, can truly represent the salvation for wildlife strained by fires (another dry season is underway in the land of kangaroos and koalas) but also from other threats. According to the founders, in fact, for many injured animals the immediate and high-level treatment they will receive from this futuristic structure will really make the difference between life and death.

“Within minutes of arrival, our team of experienced veterinarians he will medicate the wounds and administer painkillers and medications - Bree Talbot, head of the veterinary team of the Byron Bay Foundation explains to WWF Australia - This means that we can start the treatment before serious clinical signs appear, such as infections or dehydration ”.

Can a new season of life really begin in Australia?
