Cat slaughter underway in Australia: it is not climate change, nor an adverse natural event, but a decision made by the government to exterminate about 2 million felines. Genocide planned by man, and in the implementation phase through poisoned sausages left throughout the national territory.

The disturbing story starts way back in 2015, when the largest country in Oceania decided to kill two million cats by 2020 due to concerns for the local fauna, in particular small species of rodents and marsupials that have become highly prized prey for felines.

There seemed no other solution, or rather the government found nothing better than physically eliminating the predators, through a strategic plan, a real feline genocide. Today, despite the protests and numerous petitions online which collected hundreds of thousands of signatures, not only has nothing stopped, but it seems to go on and on, like reported in the New York Times, in an article describing the actions performed by Shane Morse and Kevin Figliomeni, two people who get up early in the morning to leave poisoned sausages waiting for the felines to eat them, only to die after excruciating suffering.

Doctor Death, so is called in the famous American newspaper Dave Algar, the one who produced poisoned sausages made on purpose to attract and kill unsuspecting cats. The "recipe" calls for kangaroo meat, chicken fat and a mix of herbs and spices, along with a poison - called 1080 - highly lethal to cats. But, among other things, also for other non-native species such as foxes.

An evil genius. Yes, because Algar is an esteemed researcher with the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions in Australia and has studied not only the deadly poison, but also all the ingredients that would make the sausages palatable to cats, so as not to leave them any way out. He has looked at pet food in supermarkets and observed which flavors his two cats thrill the most (used as taste tests, but not killed).

And so, according to the estimates of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology reported by the same newspaper, 211.560 cats were killed during the first 12 months of 2015 and the strategy seems to continue, including through the capture, shooting and development of all sorts of death traps.

All to defend the local biodiversity. Hard to believe that there are no other methods.
