Yet another slaughter of animals in India. After the killing of nearly 40 monkeys a few days ago, there are now reports of around 150 poisoned dogs buried alive in a five-meter-deep pit in the village of Hunasekatte, about 300 kilometers from Bangalore. Some villagers, alerted by the animals' complaints, promptly asked the volunteers of the Shivamogga Animal Rescue Club for help, who arrived immediately on the spot together with the police and some veterinarians.

Unfortunately, however, there was nothing more to be done: the animals were practically all dead as a result of poisoning and burial, and the volunteers could not help but remove the carcasses from the pit. Investigations conducted by the local police led to the identification and arrest of twelve people (including a public official) on suspicion of killing animals.

As mentioned, this is not an isolated episode. Just a few weeks ago, the country recorded a real massacre perpetrated against a community of monkeys in a village in the district of Hassan (in Karnataka): 38 animals were found killed and abandoned, and seven people were arrested for this slaughter. On this occasion, according to the authorities, there was no intention to kill the animals but only to sedate them, remove them from their habitat and sell them on the black market - something in this plan, evidently, went wrong and the monkeys died.
