Kept on the asphalt and in the cold with temperatures reaching zero degrees. This is the fate of a giraffe, two zebras and some of the camels circus Davide Orfei, which were seized on January 5 by the forest police.

The circus tent of the Orfei circus was located on the outskirts of Brescia and the exotic animals were frozen, for this reason the carabinieri, as we read in a communiqué, proceeded to the kidnapping because they were "detained in conditions incompatible with their ethology".

"The animals lived in structures without heating systems, they stopped outside directly on the asphalt, which at the time of the check was frozen, without any spaces with natural soil or sand and branches having been prepared", write the carabinieri, recalling that the circus owners have violated animal welfare guidelines imposed by the CITES scientific commission of the Ministry of the Environment, in force since 2010.

Conditions incompatible with their nature, remembering precisely that exotic animals must live at temperatures that do not fall below 12 degrees and severe suffering, have cost the owner the offense provided for by article 727 of the criminal code which risks arrest up to a year or a fine of between one thousand and ten thousand euros.

However, the animals seized remained in custody at the circus, with the hope that they were moved to appropriate facilities. The owner was then denounced for having recruited and subjected to labor exploitation, taking advantage of their state of need, three "illegal" workers, two foreigners from Gambia and a Pakistani, with a regular residence permit, paying them a clearly different salary by national collective agreements which were housed in precarious conditions inside a truck used as a makeshift accommodation.

It is not the first time that we have talked about the horrible conditions in which circus animals live, so we invite you to boycott this type of show that distorts giraffes, bears, elephants and so on.
