The greedy bear that for some time had "moved" to Roccaraso has been captured and will soon be released into the wild in the Abruzzo National Park

Just a few hours ago we told you about Juan Carrito, the "gluttonous" Marsican bear that wandered through the streets of Roccaraso (L'Aquila) robbing shops and pastry shops in search of something to eat. To try to remove the animal from the inhabited center and prevent it from hurting people, the animal rights association Salviamo l'orso had released a handbook with some guidelines for the local population, asking for example not to leave food outside the door of house so as not to bring the bear near the houses.

Starting at 8 this morning, given his refusal to spontaneously leave the town, the recovery operations of the Forest Guard began to try to capture Juan Carrito and forcibly remove him from Roccaraso. The bear, already equipped with a radio collar, was intercepted, drugged with a bullet soaked in sleeping pills and captured. This is not tragic news for the bear, on the contrary: unlike what happened to the Papillon bear, drugged and locked up for life in a facility south of Trento despite never having harmed anyone, Juan will be transferred by helicopter in the woods of the Abruzzo National Park, a habitat certainly more appropriate than the village where he had been living for a few weeks now. Once the transfer is complete, Juan will start a re-education program in the natural environment in Marsica, where he will be free to run around and express his true nature without hurting anyone.

We have heard about Juan Carrito's capture and reintegration into the wild Massimo Vitturi, national responsible for LAV wild animals:

As much as the capture affects the life of the animal, urbanized areas are not the home of the bear - he explained to us. - A move to more wild and more suitable areas is therefore welcome. This transfer protects the animal itself to re-educate it for wild life: pastry shops are not its place. What has been done in Roccaraso must become an example for the provincial administration of Trento, which never envisaged the forced displacement of wild animals, citing as an excuse the fact that they would spontaneously return to their place of origin. Another way is possible, just want it and look for it.
