Wolves and bears do not kill each other: Minister Costa on the side of animals

Fortunately, there are those who are still on the side of the animals. “I have always said it and I repeat it: wolves and bears do not kill each other”, writes the Minister of the Environment Sergio Costa on his Facebook profile, while the "license to kill" is ready in Trentino and Veneto.

Fortunately, there are those who are still on the side of the animals. "I have always said it and I repeat it: wolves and bears do not kill each other", writes the Minister of the Environment Sergio Costa on his Facebook profile, while in Trentino Alto Adige and Veneto the "license to kill" is ready.

“I am returning from two intense days in Trentino Alto Adige, where I wanted to meet the presidents of the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano, Maurizio Fugatti and Arno Kompatscher. It is no mystery that we have distant positions, but not for this reason irreconcilable. This is precisely the work of politics. One point must remain firm: wolves and bears do not come down! ”, Writes the minister.

The distant positions are the ones we know well by now, that is the plan for killing wolves and bears which involves taking them, capturing them and finally killing them. The motivation brought by Veneto, Trento and Bolzano is that these animals cause too much damage. Precisely in Veneto the proposal will go to the classroom in the next few days, but we know that the principle of subsidiarity and competences, once the law is approved, can be challenged by the government.

The laws violate the constitutional principle and already last July, Minister Costa promised that for protected species at European level there will be no forced culling because the competence on wildlife, in particular the protected or endangered one, belongs to the State. .

Costa now talks about the famous Piano Lupo, completed with the support of Ispra:

“The plan marks a path of coexistence with wolves and 23 very specific mitigation actions.
This is a great novelty, which was also welcomed by the two provincial presidents: in the plan there is also a million euros to implement experimental mitigation actions specific to the territories ”, he writes.

    What does it mean?

“It means adapting mitigation actions in detail, because what is good in one valley may not be adequate for another, for example. Lowering the plan to local realities, to listen to the needs of farmers, for example: this is one of the objectives we have set ourselves. With a clear vision and not subject to negotiations: wolves and bears must be protected and protected, and at the same time coexistence with human activities must be managed ".

In short, to put it in even simpler words, Costa reiterates that no killing should take place, but a path of coexistence with animals.
