Wisdom (which not surprisingly means "wisdom"), an amazing albatross of "just" 70 years has given birth to another chick!
He is about to end up run over, his mother saves himHe has outlived the partners he mated with and even the biologist who first studied him in 1956. He is Wisdom (which not surprisingly means "wisdom"), an amazing albatross of "just" 70 years old and on the island of Laysan gave birth to another chick!
Considered the "oldest known wild bird in history," Wisdom hatched her chick on February 1 at the Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge in the North Pacific, where more than a million albatrosses return to nest each year.
The US Fish and Wildlife Service of the Pacific Region (USFWS) shared some great pictures of the bird:
?Cute baby alert! Wisdom's chick has hatched!!! ??
Wisdom, a mōlī (Laysan albatross) and world’s oldest known, banded wild bird is at least 70 years old. Biologists estimate she has had at least 30-36 chicks. https://t.co/cjM8X2clme

Since 2006, the bird, accompanied by its male partner Akeakamai, whom it met at the "tender age of 56", returns to the atoll every year to lay and nest its eggs, where about three million seabirds live.
"When Wisdom comes home, she's surrounded by her chicks, it's a family reunion," said ornithologist Kelly Goodale.
During its long life, Wisdom, registered among adult specimens as early as 1956 by the American ornithologist Chandler Robbins, raised more than three dozen chicks.
