When you find a bat it is essential understand if it is a puppy or an adult. Maybe you didn't know that at a certain time of the year it is easier to find adult bats and not cubs. It is important not to mistake a baby bat for an adult and vice versa.

1) Give the bat some water to drink.
2) Put it in a cardboard box closed with a lid. If the box has large holes the bat may escape. So the advice is to only make small holes with a toothpick.
3) Put some paper towels in the box (do not use cotton wool).
4) Immediately contact an expert who can help you.

I found an adult bat
Always keep in mind the time of year when you found your bat, since from September to May only adult bats can be found. The Associazione Tutela Pipistrelli Onlus emphasizes that we must not give milk to adult bats, even if they look like puppies, because obviously they are already weaned specimens. I found a baby bat
In the months of June, July and August you may find a baby bat, naked or with a light furry coat. In this case you have to pay close attention to don't give bats the wrong foods, such as powdered milk for cats and dogs, which could kill them. One of the possible nutrients for bats are the mealworms (or flour moths). However, weaning a bat cub is very delicate. So the advice is to contact an expert immediately. In your email indicate the place where you found the bat and attach some photos, preferably of the back and snout. Also ask the telephone number of an expert to contact near the area where you are. Bats are very delicate animals, taking care of them is not easy and following the advice of the experts is very important. If you have no alternative, contact a veterinarian or animal welfare organization in your area now.
