"Snow white and beautiful". These are the words used by the farmer who managed to photograph, thanks to a drone, an albino roe deer in the Bernese Oberland, in the Swiss Alps.
The rare and candid animal had already been spotted by the farmer last autumn, but being very shy and shy, he never let himself get close, even though he even jumped inside his farm. As the man tells 20min.ch:
“Thanks to my drone I was finally able to take good pictures. The animal was not afraid of the drone at all, stared at it for a while and quickly lost interest, soon returning to the forest to join its herd.
Ricke roe deer usually move with three other specimens and are naturally brown. And to see that their candid friend has not been isolated from the rest of the group, can only please.
Albinism, in fact, is a congenital anomaly that manifests itself with the absence of skin pigment and that affects various species of animals, including humans, albeit with a very low frequency. Their white color often ends up in contrast with the surrounding habitat, making these specimens very vulnerable and often excluded from the herd.
Roe deer looks healthy and happy and I'm glad it survived the hunting season and winter, concluded the farmer.
Although a very rare event, it is not the first time that an albino roe deer has been sighted in the Alps: last year it happened on the border with the canton of Friborg.
