Valle d'Aosta is not a region for wolves. The controversial draft law it authorizes was unanimously approved by the Regional Council yesterday the collection, capture and eventual killing of this species throughout the Valle d'Aosta territory. This authorization will be granted after the opinion of the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research. With the new bill, drawn up following an agreement between the majority and the opposition, wolves are portrayed as dangerous animals, which therefore "deserve" to be eliminated in certain circumstances.

"Right from the start, the will of the Commission," - declared the rapporteur of the draft standard Albert Chatrian (of the Alliance Valdotaine group) - in compliance with the limits set by the European and state legislation for the protection of the wolf, was to arrive at a text that guaranteed the conservation of the wolf species compatible with breeding and agricultural activities which in some circumstances were threatened and even harmed by predator attacks, thus increasing fear and hostility towards the wolf ".

Several politicians have been keen to emphasize that the bill was not created to give the green light to wolf hunting, a statement that appears quite questionable. Among these the co-rapporteur Augusto Rollandin (Pour autonomie) who specified:

"This text, shared between the various council groups and a synthesis of our proposal and the draft law of the Executive, must not be interpreted as a wolf hunt, but as a just defense of the people and animals besieged by the wolf, even in pastures near the hamlets and in the mountain pastures ".

Opponents of the anti-wolf bill

The approval of what has been renamed the anti-wolf law has been strongly contested by the animal rights front and beyond. There was no shortage of dissenting voices within the Valle d'Aosta territory itself. The political movement is openly taking sides against the bill Environment Rights Equality in the Aosta Valley (Adu Vda), according to which it would only be propaganda.

"An anti-wolf law has been approved that is completely useless, if not for the propaganda of the League and the autonomists" - notes Adu - A law that, in fact, does not bring concrete news, since it provides for the mandatory and favorable opinion of Ispra and the procedures of the Habitats Directive, but spreads a climate of alarm towards a protected animal essential for the ecosystem. A regulation that is inapplicable until the wolf management plan is adopted and implemented, but which will serve, according to the wishes of the promoters, to divert the attention of the 'milieu rural' from the real problems of the sector: bureaucracy, clientele, lack of planning and protection of small and medium producers ".

Today an "anti-wolf" law was approved by the Valle d'Aosta - Conseil de la Vallée regional council completely ...

According to Adu Valle d'Aosta, it would have been more appropriate to speed up the definition and implementation of management measures and to request the approval of the new National Plan.

Of the same opinion also the former regional councilor who on Facebook commented on the approval of the anti-wolf bill with these words:

“They won't be able to make fun of voters forever with a crap law. The environmental conscience is, fortunately, much more widespread than a few gentlemen who feel they are omnipotent and believe they have power over nature as well. They are the only wolves to be terrified of. " Source: Valle d'Aosta Region / Adu Valle d'Aosta / Facebook Read all our articles on wolves:
