For the Maya, the hummingbird occupied a privileged place among animals since it was considered a sacred creature and a messenger between gods and humans. Now in Mexico this bird, among the most important pollinators of the American continent, is under threat and is being captured to be used in terrifying love rituals, especially in these days with the approach of Valentine's Day.
The complaint originated from the Mexican Institute of Fauna, Flora and Social Sustainability AC which, through a post published on its Facebook page, warns about how hummingbirds are threatened to create "moorings" of love and other witchcraft rituals, especially in Mexico City.
