In the heart of Africa, an association takes care of orphaned baby elephants. The video of a volunteer massaging the trunk and 'blowing the nose' of one of them goes viral.

A heart-warming video is making the rounds of social networks. It comes from Kenya and has as its protagonist a small elephant cub who receives a massage on his trunk by a volunteer from the Sheldrick Wildlife association: in the video you can see the man who massage and rub the young animal's trunk to clean its nose and remove mucus. As can be seen, the elephant is enjoying the treatment and appears to be very happy.

Baby elephant trunk massage! Every now and again the youngest orphans in our care need a little help clearing their noses. A little massage does just the trick. pic.twitter.com/CDife6gDuL

It is an orphaned baby elephant. Volunteers take care of him and many other puppies Sheldrick Wildlife, an association of volunteers that deals with the recovery, rescue and release of small orphaned elephants in the wild, as well as the conservation of all wildlife in various areas of Kenya.

Losing their parents is a particularly traumatic event for young elephants, both physically and psychologically: the cubs stay with their mothers up to three years of age, requiring love and care. When left alone, they often suffer from hunger and dehydration, or are attacked by predators and human hunters.

The rescue teams of the association that move around the area are equipped with milk, litters to transport the orphan and medicines to offer immediate help from the first stages of rescue. The rescued puppies are then taken to Nairobi National Park where the volunteers take care of the puppies with great attention and love - as also seen in this other video: a very young puppy just arrived at the park sucks the volunteer's finger. It is a reassuring action for him, as it reminds him of the bond with his mother.

Only when the orphans are ready to return to nature, after having overcome the trauma of their mother's death and being healed of any injuries, are they brought back to their natural environment, in one of the protected areas scattered throughout the country. The association also organizes an adoption plan for anyone who wants to contribute financially to the care of orphaned animals and their reintegration into the natural environment.
