Rafiki, il mountain gorilla of Uganda, leader of the 17-member Nkuringo group of Bwindi National Park, he's been killed.

He was 25 years old and 4 men would have been arrested to take his life, as reported by the Uganda Wildlife Authority on its fb page. Now they face life imprisonment or a $ 5,4 million fine, mountain gorillas are in fact an endangered species and fewer than a thousand remain in the world.

Regarding Rafiki, the post-mortem report showed that he was injured with a sharp object or device, stuck in the upper left part of the abdomen, at such depth that it reached the internal organs.

We have arrested four people over the death of Rafiki, the Silverback of Nkuringo Gorilla group in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. They will be prosecuted in the courts of law. See statement below

And his death unfortunately represents a tragic loss, even for his own group which, left without a leader, could run the risk of disintegrating or being led by a wild gorilla, as Uwa pointed out.

In the event that the latter were to take the lead, it would be impossible for the man to continue to come into contact with the specimens of the group, as up to now. And this could also have repercussions on Uganda's tourism, reached by many visitors precisely to observe mountain gorillas in their natural habitats.
