A really cruel and unjustified episode that we would never want to tell you about is the one that took place during a hunting trip (obviously illegal) on Esther Island in Alaska. The protagonists are a father and a son who fortunately were filmed by a camera while they were carrying out their barbaric gesture and therefore were promptly denounced and condemned.
The terrible images were published on the website of "The Humane Society", a US environmental association. We see the two men, Andrew and Owen Renner, who manage to find the den of the bear that was hibernating with its cubs, given the time of year, the particularly cold climate and the abundant snow that had covered the area.

The two are then seen taking the rifle and firing several times until they are sure they have killed the bear. Immediately afterwards they happily beat the 5 and obviously take the classic photo with their "hunting trophy" before skinning the animal.
Meanwhile the puppies were left alone, in the cold, in the dark and obviously terrified in their shelter but the two unscrupulous hunters did not spare them either. Then they came back for them and put them in a plastic bag!
The scene was completely cleared by the two to avoid getting caught but they got a bitter surprise. The den was in fact monitored, the bear specimens were followed by the United States Forest Service and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and a camera had been installed in their shelter so that they could be studied. Thanks to this the two were framed.
First they tried to exonerate themselves but in the face of the evidence they pleaded guilty and were sentenced to a term of imprisonment, their hunting license revoked and were fined $ 9.000.
Does this seem like a fair punishment? These animals deserve more respect and compassion. Alaskan federal law currently prohibits this practice within national reservations but the current administration is seeking to remove those prohibitions. Will massacres of this kind become legal again?
What can we do? We will also participate in the mailbombing which sees as the protagonist the United States Secretary of the Interior, David Bernhardt, to ask to protect animals from trophy hunters. Here the format proposed by The Humane Society.
