There is the egg! The peregrine falcons of the Pirellone in Milan are once again pregnant

Giulia laid the first egg! The peregrine falcons that nest on the Pirelli Palace are preparing to become parents.

Giulia laid the first egg! Not everyone knows that up there, on top of the Pirellone in Milan, a truly sui generis couple lives: they are Giò & Giulia, a duo of peregrine falcons which since 2017 nests right on the Pirelli skyscraper, 125 meters high. Every year many citizens await the return of the birds to the nest and their hatching. And so it was again this year.

Yesterday morning, March 3, the first egg in the nest of the famous pair of birds of prey, which now the two hawks will take over for hatching.

The peregrine falcons were discovered about three years ago during the renovation of the palace. An artificial nest was then set up for them to host the hatching, as well as a webcam (link below) to observe them 24 hours a day.

The observation of Giò & Giulia - names chosen to pay homage to Giò Ponti, designer of the “Pirellone”, and his wife Giulia - has become a beautiful habit of many Milanese citizens who await the return of the birds to the nest every year.

In spring 2019, two young falcons were born called Lisa & Lea, names that came out of a survey published on the Facebook page of the Lombardy Region as a tribute to the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci.

Also in 2020 the hawks returned to the Pirellone. On the afternoon of Sunday 19 January 2020 there was the first sighting of Giò & Giulia near the nest and after the courtship phase today the happy news: the egg is there!

When will the baby be born? The duration of the hatching ranges from a minimum of 28 days to a maximum of 35: the falcon, therefore, could be born between March 31 and April 7.
