The whole village turned off the lights for 35 days to save a bird's nest

A little bird had made its nest in an Indian village electrical station. The inhabitants remained in the dark for 45 days to save him

This beautiful story of kindness and respect for animals comes from a remote village in India. Here the inhabitants remained in the dark for 45 days in order to save the nest of an Indian robin that had settled right next to the electrical box.

Potthakudi is a village of only 120 houses located in the Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu in India. The lighting of this small town is ensured by 35 street lamps which are turned on by a control unit located inside a metal box.

Right here though an Indian robin (Copsychus fulicatus) he decided to make his nest and start hatching eggs. How can you protect your safety and that of the little ones? Simple, don't use the current.

To tell this unusual story is  Karuppu Raja, who has been in charge of lighting the street lamps in the village at 18:00 pm every day for over a decade. It was he, in fact, who first noticed the presence of the bird and then the nest. He then decided to take pictures and record a video to show the situation to the villagers.

“” I wrote on the village's WhatsApp group that turning off the lights was the only solution because the bird will fly away once it realizes that there is a human presence or contact near its nest. I also told the group that we should save the bird and its cubs at any cost "

Although some people objected to the proposal, arguing that turning off the street lights would cause inconvenience to the villagers, Raja said most people accepted his suggestion and were delighted to be able to help this bird to nest and raise her puppies in serenity and safety.

“I explained to women and children that so so many bird species have become extinct and we shouldn't let the Indian robin face the same fate. The women were very cooperative and accepted the suggestion to turn off the street lamps. We also cut off the power to ensure that nothing happens to the nest "

Raja took care of taking a series of photos and videos of the mother and her little ones that she shared every day with the villagers to inform them about the conditions of the birds.

After 45 days, Raja said, the mother and the birds left the nest and the light finally returned to Potthakudi.

A beautiful example of absolute respect for animals, even at the cost of sacrificing some of our comforts.

“We are happy that our village can set an example of kindness,” concluded Raja.
