The timely release of a deer from an illegal trap in Sri Lanka

A deer was freed from an illegal trap in Sri Lanka thanks to the intervention of the men of the forest ranger

A group of the forest ranger has treated and brought back a deer in the wooded area of Ampara in Sri Lanka.

The specimen, probably attracted by a food bait, was stuck in an illegal trap. The antlers (that is, what are commonly called the "horns" of the deer) had become entangled, preventing the animal from retracing its steps.

The deer, visibly agitated, tried to free itself with all its strength, moving its head and body; probably, if the men of the forest had not intervened promptly, he would not have been able to save himself.

Unfortunately the animal suffered injuries, so he was medicated before being let go.

Poaching is a widespread practice in the area, according to Reuters: locals set up illegal traps to get food. Fortunately, the men of the forestry corps constantly patrol the area, preventing the animals from being captured and then killed.

Another story of newfound freedom that fills us with joy, while reminding us that hunting still represents a serious problem for wild animals.
