The zoo closes, but the animals remain in the cages to die of hunger and thirst. It happens in the Parque Zoologico Prudencio Navarro in Ayamonte, Spain, where tigers, bears, baboons, fallow deer and monkeys have been left to fend for themselves.

The complaint comes from some Spanish activists who, after the closure of the zoo, which took place two months ago, went to check if the cages were really empty and the animals had been transferred to sanctuaries, clearly not being able to free them in nature because they were born and raised in captivity.

And therefore, the bitter discovery: tigers, bears, monkeys and other specimens are still there and to think, that the zoo was closed right after the death of some animals and the protests of residents and activists. After a life spent in concrete to fuel the business and entertainment of tourists, now they are experiencing yet another humiliation.

We are talking about a continuous emergency. The zoo is located on the border with Portugal and inside these unfortunate animals could face death if immediate action is not taken.

"We have offered several times to find a new home for the animals - say the activists - but the local authorities have always refused".

The cages are dirty, many of the animals are starting to suffer from depression, are malnourished and have robotic behaviors. In the images of the activists of Proyecto Gran Simio, the Alicante non-governmental organization that denounced the situation, they appear alone and left to fend for themselves.
