He is about to end up run over, his mother saves himLos Barreales Lake is an artificial basin located in the province of Neuquén, in Argentine Patagonia. Here a group of scientists from the National University of Comahue discovered a huge dinosaur, which lived in the Cretaceous period.
The lake was born with the construction of the Cerros Colorados hydroelectric complex. It receives the contribution of the Neuquén River. And that's where the researchers found the remains of a giant dinosaur and also a large group of eggs.
Futalognkosaurus was a species characteristic of the Neuquén area at the time of the Upper Cretaceous period and lived with other gigantic dinosaurs. this is why the area is also known as the "land of giants". The presence of Futalognkosaurus was ascertained during the year 2000 and is one of the spearheads of Neuquén paleontology. At that time, 70% of the skeleton of a specimen was found and this gave rise to the geopaleontological dinosaur park of the National University of Comahue on Lake Barreales.
But recently scientists, on the shores of the lake, found the remains of what should have been the companion of this gigantic herbivore that lived in the Upper Cretaceous, 90 million years ago. The huge new dinosaur was over 30 meters tall.
The team led by paleontologist Jorge Calvo has been working in the area for some time and the drop in the water level of Lake Barreales is what has allowed the group to discover the fossils that will return underwater again in a month.
According to the reconstruction provided by scientists, in the Late Cretaceous, the entire territory of Neuquén was a jungle with trees over 40 meters high which required the sauropods to develop long necks to reach the leaves they fed on. It was a real one land of giants, but it was also suitable terrain for carnivorous megaraptors, whose bones were found in the same area. Furthermore, in recent days, the remains of 200 eggs that belonged to dinosaurs have also been found in the same area:

The geologists Federico Narváez and Gabriel Asencio work together with Calvo who are completing their studies to find out more about the "relationship" that binds the new giant dinosaur discovered with the specimen found in 2000.
