    The polka dot zebra really exists! Her name is Tira and she was born in the Kenyan reserve of Masaai Mara

    The polka dot zebra was born in Kenya and its particular color is due to a genetic mutation caused by melanin

    A zebra then, like the one sung by Mina in the sixties, it was photographed in Kenya, in the Masaai Mara park.





    To spot the particular zebra it was Antony Tira and the photos taken by the guide were then published on the profiles of several associations, including the Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association and Wildest Africa.

    The zebra, baptized with the surname of the guide who noticed it, would have one genetic mutation which causes an altered production of melanin.

    There are not many similar cases recorded in the past and unfortunately the few specimens of zebra that have different colors from the herd, have been shown to not being able to live long.

    Often in fact zebras with a particular coat they do not succeed in reproducing since rejected by the pack or why mostly targeted by predators.
    In addition, the anomalous coloring makes Tira a much coveted trophy for poachers, attracted by the original coat of the animal.
