Help the bees by feeding them. This is the goal of Bee Saving Paper, a special paper that can be used for numerous purposes and comparable to a real energy drink for these precious insects.

Bees are increasingly in difficulty due to climate change, pesticides, pollution, the spread of pathogens and the loss of natural habitats. Protecting pollinating insects is also essential for our very survival on Earth as they are responsible for keeping 90% of all existing wild plants alive.

Unfortunately, these little creatures have to fly farther to find the plants they need to feed. The long distances they are forced to travel exhaust them to the point of killing them. But to offer a solution was a Polish startup that created Bee Saving Paper, an innovative and biodegradable material impregnated with glucose, which allows bees to find the energy to fly farther and longer.

A real refreshment point. Bee Saving Paper uses a special type of sugar that can be dissolved in water and which is used by beekeepers during the winter in the form of a syrup. It is not necessary to use large quantities because half a kg of this paste is enough to feed several thousand bees.

To help them, Saatchi & Saatchi IS Warsaw have partnered with City Bees, an organization that fosters a passion for bees in urban communities, to launch Bee Saving Paper.

Developed with Manufaktura Papieru Czerpanego w Kobyłce thanks to the close collaboration between many professionals, including entomology experts and other paper artisans, contains glucose and seeds coated with a water-based UV varnish, which is applied in the form of patterns perceived by insects like meadows full of pollen.

The paper has a double function: firstly it feeds the bees through this special glucose which does not make the paper sticky and gives them a boost of energy. Second, it contains seeds of melliferous plants such as phacelia which are released once the bee has consumed all of the glucose. In the following seasons, the seeds will give life to plants loved by pollinating insects which will thus be able to obtain the benefits in the future, during their long journeys.

“We know that our innovation will not solve the global problem of the declining bee population alone, but we hope to make people understand how important they are to us,” said Tomasz Bujok and Anna Gadecka, creators of the project.

Bee Saving Paper has already successfully passed a field test, when it was used by a beekeeper who had lost over 95% of his hives. It is now ready for mass production and the paper can be used to produce glasses, plates, bags, etc.

Another solution that will make it possible to help bees in difficulty, even if it would be necessary to prevent their disappearance by eliminating or at least reducing the factors that determine it.
