A mysterious find was made a few days ago in the Amazon rainforest. It's about a beached whale in the dense vegetation of the island of Marajó in Brazil. No one has yet figured out how it ended up there.

Scientists are puzzling to guess how a dead humpback whale could have ended up in the Amazon jungle, so far from the ocean shore (more than 15 meters). The unusual fact was realized on Friday when, on a remote island in the Amazon River, vultures were spotted circling over something. With astonishment it was seen that it was indeed a whale.

The specimen was then photographed and examined by the institute that deals with the protection and conservation of wildlife, Bicho D'água, and by the Municipal Secretariat for Health, Sanitation and the Environment (SEMMA). It turned out that the whale was about 1 year old and was eight meters long from head to tail.

The problem, however, is to understand how the whale ended up in the jungle. The most accepted hypothesis is that her little girl traveled with her mother during a migratory cycle. She would then get lost and get stuck in a fishing net or she would die from a collision with a hull. To drag it inland, however, would have been the high tide that has been recorded in recent days.

Another unusual thing, however, is that, in the north of Brazil, it is really difficult to spot humpback whales at this time of year. In fact, in February these tend to be in the South where the waters are warmer and full of fish. It could therefore have died in a very distant place and then been carried by currents.

The team analyzing the found specimen has collected samples to try to determine the cause of death that could be revealed in about 10 days.

Strange as this fact may seem, it is actually not an isolated case. As early as November 2007, a whale had run aground in the hinterland of the Atlantic Ocean. In that case she was even alive, the local rescuers managed to free her but unfortunately she died after a few days.
