The heroic teenagers who rescue koalas on Kangaroo Island by loading them into their car

On Australia's Kangaroo Island, a group of teenagers save koalas from flames by loading them into their car

Koalas live rather quiet lives and are unlikely to move quickly. That is why the bushfires that are ravaging Australia pose a particularly serious danger to them. Fortunately, there are several volunteers working to save them, among them a group of teenagers who are committed to collecting these animals on the island of kangaroos.

On Kangaroo Island, Australia's famous kangaroo island, 2 people in addition to thousands of animals have died from the fires (the total estimate for the whole of Australia has now reached one billion) including kangaroos, platypus, possums and koalas .

Koalas in particular are at risk as they sit in trees, sleep, eat, and the complicated digestion of eucalyptus leaves makes them lazy. It is estimated that there are already 25.000 koalas victims of the flames on the island (practically half of the local population) and countless others were injured and burned.

Some young islanders have decided to collect as many of these animals as possible in their car in order to keep them safe from the flames. The rescue was also immortalized in a video.

The images show a mother with her cub on her back which is in the trunk of the car while on the front seats there are four other koalas.

“We put the mother in the trunk because she was a bit aggressive - explained one of the teenagers - The little creatures seem a bit exhausted. We try to collect as many as possible "

Koalas on the island have so far been spared from the chlamydia problem that has affected land-dwelling animals. The disease is sexually transmitted, leading to infertility and painful urinary tract infections. Therefore, in the comments to the video there are those who warned teenagers not to take animals off the island at all.

Terrible situations like these show us that the good side of humanity still exists! Even a hunter braved the flames to save koalas from fires.
