When you come home after a tiring day your dog he runs towards you and you immediately feel better. This helps to reduce our heart rate levels stress and pressure.
New research suggests that not only do we humans benefit from being around our dogs, but our four-legged friends also feel better when they are with us.
A small study in Australia involved three dog owners who are very attached to their pets. During the study dogs and owners they were separated and then they found each other again. Both dogs and their owners wore monitors to see what kind of effect they had on each other's heart rate.
In times when they were separated dogs and owners became anxious and their heart rate increased. When they got together, however, heart rate not only has it subsided but he began to adjust to the rhythms of the other.
Mia Cobb, a dog scientist and researcher, found strong consistency in the owner's and dog's heart rate pattern. After about a minute from the meeting, the heart rhythm of dogs and owners was reduced and aligned.
To celebrate the positive results of the Australian study, the Hearts Aligned campaign was born, dedicated to reducing stress and improving our health and the well-being of pets.
