Blade is a small turtle with a big problem: a metabolic bone disease that makes it too weak to bear the weight of its armor. But thanks to her Lego bricks she is back to walking and having a 'normal' life, just like Schildi.
The owners of Bielefeld, Germany, realized that something was wrong: she was not as active and healthy as she should have been. So they took her to see the veterinarian Carsten Plischke. Once she understood the problem, a solution had to be found to help her.
Inspired, therefore, by Son's Lego toys, the doctor has an idea: to build a sort of "skate" for Blade, so that he can use his legs to move, while the Legos lift his protective shell off the ground.
The Lego trolley is made of six pieces - including four wheels with treads - glued to the underside of the animal with a special glue. It will be able to gain strength in the legs and move freely.
“We mounted Lego wheels on the tortoise because it had bone disease and its shell was too heavy, as well as a loss of muscle tone. That's why he couldn't get up and walk. His bones were soft as rubber and his muscles clearly diminished. For people there are walkers and prostheses, but for animals there aren't companies that produce something similar, ”explains Plischke.
So you have to find creative solutions and each animal needs its own treatment. Blade certainly found the of him, judging by how he moves today thanks to his Lego skate:
