The cry of a koala in one of the last trees of its forest remains unheard. In Australia the timber industry is cutting down thousands of hectares of what is now its new habitat, killing them or seriously injuring them with automatic machines that are cutting thousands of eucalyptus trees to pieces.

In fact, in a few seconds each tree is sawn, cut and then piled up. Koala habitats are disappearing and many live on eucalyptus plantations. Endangered animals are slow and they cannot escape the reapers approaching, causing a slow, inexorable, painful and horrible death. Some survive, but are seriously injured. He will still be left on the plantations until he takes his last breath.

“We found the animals in horrible condition. Broken limbs, impact wounds, broken backs, dead mothers with still-living babies struggling to survive ”, says animalist Tracey Wilson in a video from ABC. The associations try to do everything possible, collecting and treating the injured specimens, but very rarely are they contacted by the companies when there are animals in difficulty. They don't want to be associated with dying koalas.

Meanwhile, this very painful demise of large numbers of koalas doesn't seem to be as important as the profits of the timber industry. For this the Rainforest Rescue has launched a petition addressed to the Australian Federal Government, the Governors of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and environmental authorities.

“Since koalas are slow and unable to escape effectively, they often experience a slow and painful death from automatic pickers. Koalas are forced to live on eucalyptus plantations because their natural habitat has already been massively reduced by wood processing, ”the text reads. Hence 3 requests:

    1. Stop the cutting of Australian forests and the expansion of plantations.

    2. Regulate the wood industry, so that the koalas will not be injured or killed on the plantations.

    3. Classify koalas as a threatened species in all states and territories of Australia and develop effective measures for their protection.
