Albinism is a genetic condition that can occur in many living species, including humans, due to which there is a complete or total absence of melanin in the body which is therefore not pigmented. All this is due to a mutation of the tyrosinase enzyme responsible for the synthesis of the molecule thanks to which we are more or less dark (and exposed to the sun we tend to get tanned).
For turtles, however, as for other reptiles, thealbinism is often a little different compared to that of humans or birds, because even albino individuals retain some pigment, showing a yellow or reddish color (and in this case it looks like they are really catching fire). There are actually also completely white turtles, but they are even more rare.
These creatures are literally amazing enough to be shown online by those lucky enough to meet them or who have decided to raise some.

Their condition makes them though most vulnerable in nature because they are more easily recognizable by predators, as often happens to particular individuals of known species (a recent case: the zebra then, born in the Kenyan reserve of Masaai Mara)
However, albino tortoises have the same unmistakable and very hard shell that tends to ensure them a longer life than that of other albino animals (in proportion to the average life span of the single species), even if, unfortunately, shorter than its non-albino counterparts. .
We just have to enjoy this, at least in photos extraordinary show.
