The baby monk seal found in Salento did not make it despite veterinary care: he died in the early hours of the morning.

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

A few days ago the baby monk seal was rescued, after being reported by some fishermen, along the Lecce and Brindisi coasts, not far from Torre San Gennaro, in the Municipality of Tochiarolo. He was in an emaciated, lethargic, dyspnoic, anemic and apathetic state and the whole Salento was cheering for him, but unfortunately the wave of love was not enough to save him. Neither is veterinary care.

The death was announced by Ispra with a post on facebook, where he specifies that, despite the treatments administered immediately after the discovery, the puppy continued to breathe heavily and after a night spent in a citizen's house, always monitored by veterinarians, died early in the morning:

“The discovery took place following a report. A group of experts from Ispra and Arpa Puglia immediately intervened, assisted by specialized personnel from the Zoological Station of Naples. The area was manned by the competent authorities of the Coast Guard, the Forestry Carabinieri and the local police forces. The puppy continued to breathe heavily throughout the day and, despite the care given, died during the early hours of this morning. "

Necroscopic investigations will follow shortly, reports Ispra, at the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute, in order to be able to analyze it without damaging the skeleton and fur, and exhibit it at a later time, for didactic-scientific purposes, at the relevant Museum in the area.

Too bad for the cub, which was a small female, and for its endangered species. Unfortunately, between the coasts of the Atlantic Sahara and the Desertas islands and the main breeding colonies located in Greece, Turkey and Cyprus, there are only 700 specimens left.
