The aquarium closes, but the animals remain prisoners: there is also Honey, the loneliest dolphin in the world (PETITION)

We rescue the dolphin Honey, the 46 penguins and hundreds of fish and reptiles left in the Inubosaki Marine Park aquarium in the city of Choshi, Chiba prefecture, just east of Tokyo, which closed in January. Doors locked due to a drop in visitors after the 2011 earthquake and the nuclear crisis, but who thinks of animal welfare?

The protest of the animal rights activists who demand the release of Honey and the penguins remained in the aquarium does not stop.

The dolphin was captured in 2005 near Taiji known as Death Bay, a city infamous for hunting also described in the 2009 Oscar-winning documentary "The Cove", where every year since September 1, a new massacre of dolphins.

The aquarium had bought Honey right there, but after the documentary the Japan Association of Zoos and Aquariums agreed to stop buying dolphins from Taiji.

But now the question is the fate of the animals that have been at the heart of an attractive business for so long. As reported by Reuters, not only Honey remains in the closed aquarium, but also 46 penguins along with hundreds of fish and reptiles.

The animals are fed by the employees but the photos and videos taken by the activists would show all their suffering because it is not enough to be fed if you then live in a small pool alone.

"Honey is the symbol of both the marine park problem and Taiji hunting practices. When we went to check out the facility, she was showing signs of stress, sticking her head weakly in and out of the water," said Akiko Mitsunobu, of Animal. Rights Center.

Yet calls to Inubosaki Marine Park went unanswered. The news went around the world with the hashtag #SaveHoney, but remember that in the aquarium there is not only the dolphin, but also other animals that have the right to a more normal existence.

In the case of Honey, not having been born in captivity, but having been captured, for example, it is possible to proceed with a plan of reintegration into the wild, a practice that in the past has borne good results. The other cases will have to be evaluated individually to understand which is the best accommodation for them. One thing is certain, they need to be released from the aquarium.
