There are two pumas, a Bengal tiger, a lion, a jaguar and several birds of prey for a total of about 80 carnivorous animals living permanently in the Zulia Metropolitan Zoo in Maracaibo and who are dying of hunger due to the serious economic crisis that has hit the whole country.
The images of Miguel Romero of the AFP show the state of the most affected felines. In January, management had even ordered some animals to be sacrificed in order for others to survive. They found my pigs, goats, ducks dead, but now the situation seems even more serious.
There is even a lack of water, both for drinking and for ensuring a slight well-being to aquatic animals; there are no funds to treat the specimens that are sick and to transfer them to other sanctuaries. Some are now dying, as we see in this video, a lion who can't even get up due to weakness.
The Mexican producer Raul Julia Levy he launched, via Twitter, an appeal to President Maduro with whom he offered to take care of the animals. Here is his tweet:

The zoo has been in these conditions since 2016, two years ago over 40 animals had mysteriously disappeared and perhaps fed to other predators.
