Taiji Bay: Resumes the annual slaughter of dolphins in Japan

In Japan, the infamous annual dolphin hunt resumes in the coastal city of Taiji, where the so-called Death Bay is located.

In Japan, the infamous annual hunt for ai is resumed Dolphins in the coastal town of Taiji, where is the so-called Bay of Death.

A real massacre of dolphins is what began in Taiji where the hunt for these cetaceans pushed towards a bay where they are then captured or killed has officially reopened. Most of the specimens are slaughtered on site to use the meat for food, while others are collected and sold to aquariums and marine parks.

Overall, in this hunting season (which lasts about 6 months), it is possible to kill or capture more than 1.700 specimens. According to The Dolphin Project, five Risso's dolphins have already been killed today.

Moreover the hunt takes place in a very incorrect way. The fishing boats force the dolphins into a bottleneck which they then close with some nets. Here the waters are shallow and unfortunately they quickly turn red. In fact, the dolphins are slaughtered directly on the spot.

The images of the massacre are truly impressive and break your heart ...

The world's attention to this unscrupulous hunt has focused since 2009 when what happens in Taiji Bay came to everyone's eyes in the Oscar-winning documentary The Cove.

Japan does not care about the criticism, the international outrage and the protests that this slaughter of dolphins brings with it every year. For their part, in fact, the fishermen of Taiji are convinced that the livelihood of their community depends on the trade in these mammals.

The demand for dolphin meat in recent years has suffered a decline, but this does not stop the hunt anyway, also because there are also specimens that are captured alive and sold to marine parks for a much higher price than that of meat. Fortunately, however, in recent years the pressure on aquariums has also grown so that they do not agree to buy dolphins from Taiji (we actually hope that no more dolphins are bought anywhere in the world to end up locked up in a park!).

Every year environmentalists from various associations gather in the bay to document and try to stop the destruction that is taking place, explaining among other things that the end of these dolphins is really too cruel (in fact, it can take up to 30 minutes to die of suffocation or drowning).

There are those who say that this terrible tradition dates back many centuries but not everyone agrees that it is really something traditional and in any case, even if it were, this would in no way justify such cruelty towards animals.
