The bond between people and their pets can be wonderful. The umpteenth touching proves it love story between the dog Sissi and his human mother Nancy, cancer patient and hospitalized for surgery. The little schnauzer ran away from home and he traveled in isolation alone to reach the Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, a city in the Iowa, USA.
While Nancy had been in the hospital for about two weeks, her husband was desperate at home over the disappearance of one of their two dogs. But Sissy hadn't run away, he was trying to reach the owner. The surprise visit was filmed by security cameras.
Just like any visitor would, Sissy is seen entering the building through two sets of automatic doors. Once inside, she looks around her, then puts her nose to the ground and points straight down the hall, as if she had smelled a trail looking for his special 'patient'.
“We checked his tag and address and found out how far he lived, at least 15 blocks. So he had made a rather incredible journey ", explains Samantha Conrad, of the Mercy Security Bureau. The guard called the number reported. At the other end Dale Franck, Nancy's husband, relieved that the dog was fine, after long hours of research.
Unfortunately, Sissy was not allowed to stay in the hospital due to the ban on petsbut exceptionally was able to visit Nancy briefly before being taken home. In fact, there are still too few structures that recognize the welfare value of emotional relationship between the patient and their pet.
It remains to be seen how Sissy found her owner, as she had never walked the road to the hospital.
